Here is part of the book:

What is the secret behind the endurance of some secular civilizations? Although, based on some divine traditions such as frustration (Ihbat), trials (Ibtila), destruction (Tadmīr), annihilation (Istiṣāl), and succession (Istikhlāf), such civilizations should not be sustainable, this question can be answered in the following way:

  1. a) What has led to the progress of such societies are the positive characteristics that exist within them.
  2. b) By utilizing material means, one can enhance the level of welfare and achieve progress; however, in order to attain comprehensive sustainability and progress, a combination of both material and spiritual means is required.
  3. c) It is possible that the availability of material resources is based on the divine traditions of respite (Imhāl) and gradual entrapment (Istidraj).
  4. d) Disbelief does not hinder economic growth, although according to the tradition of frustration (Ihbat), worldly peace and happiness will not be realized.
  5. e) Although factors such as oppression are the complete cause of destruction, they are only considered predisposing causes for annihilation.
  6. f) From a religious perspective, endurance does not equate to permanence. Endurance refers to an abundant form of progress in which both quality and quantity are taken into consideration simultaneously.
